Movies

Something I’ve been really feeling passionate about lately is movies.

I’ve always liked movies, but it wasn’t until I watched The Revenant by Alejandro González Iñárritu (who also directed Birdman, another amazing movie) in 2015 for the premiere, that I fell in love with movies. This one is basically a semi-biography of Hugh Glass in around 1800, and it tells part of his story. In its cast has Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy, both such talented actors. If you don’t know which movie I’m talking of, you might recall it for the famous scene of the grizzly bear attack that Hugh Glass (DiCaprio) suffers. I really recommend it if you haven’t watched it, although it’s not for everyone, so watch it under your own risk haha.
I must say, it’s not the greatest movie ever made, but it made me realize that movies are so much more than just some people acting. There’s the photography, the soundtrack, the color scheme, the subtle hints that many times are the key to fully understand a movie.
Ever since, I’ve started to pay more attention to movies and to, not just watch them but understand them.

One of the most recent movies I watched was Blade Runner 2049 by Denis Villeneuve (who also directed Arrival, yet another great movie…sorry, but they’re all just GREAT movies), and I really liked and enjoyed it, it was so b-e-a-utiful (got that Bruce Almighty reference? haha) and Ryan Gosling surprised me! He’s an excellent actor, we all know that, but since I’ve only watched the more romantic movies he has made, I doubted a bit of him starring in a drama movie…even though I knew he has another ‘’serious’’ type of films. But now I regret doubting of him, because he did an amazing performance in this one. Props to him.
The color scheme in this movie is gorgeous, the composition of the blues and oranges, the contrast these colors make that goes along the whole movie, it’s just pleasing to the eyes.
And not just that, everything about this movie is very well thought and made. The only but, it’s that it’s a little bit slow and long, but for me that didn’t even matter ‘cause, like I said, it’s a wonderful movie.

I’m not sure if I have a favorite movie, ‘cause it’s hard to decide, but if I had to name movies I really liked, I would name them by the directors. Fight Club, Se7en, Zodiac, Gone Girl, by David Fincher. Interstellar, The Prestige, The Dark Knight Trilogy by Christopher Nolan (I did not forget about Inception, for what I’ve heard it’s a great movie, but I haven’t watched it yettt, I keep delaying it, soorryyy). La La Land, Whiplash by Damien Chazelle. Mad Max: Fury Road by George Miller, Pan’s Labyrinth by Guillermo del Toro. Oh, and I need to at It by Andrés Muschietti, it’s pretty recent, but I loved it and it became one of my faves.
Aaand, my favorite more ‘’casual’’ movies are 10 things I hate about you, The Proposal, Easy A, Mean Girls, anything from Marvel Universe.

I know I went a little too far, but it felt necessary to explain why I love movies. They’re just like books or music, they can take you out of this world, to another dimension, to another reality, to another time in 2hrs or so (and I wish it could be more…but I guess that’s what series are for hahaha I enjoy series too, but we’ll keep that for another post) and they are really helpful to relax, to sit down comfortably, with a blanket if it’s cold, with enough food and a big tv, to watch what it could be a masterpiece.

PS: Do I need to say that I recommend all of the movies I mentioned? I named quite a few, so if you want to watch movie, take a look on one of the above 😊

DOGS

Dogs have always been called the men best friend, and it couldn't be more right, but for me, they are so much more than that. And as a dog owner (and lover) myself, I have experienced my whole life what is like to have a dog by your side and to love them deeply. So in this post, I'll write about dogs that I've owned. My very first dog was ''Tunga'', he was a crossbreed (of breeds I don't know) and he was quite small, but man, he was a fighter. He used to live more in the streets than in our home, but he always returned at night. I was too little when he passed away, but I know my family suffered a lot with his death, because he was just a great dog. There were another dogs in between, I believe so, (not sure if before or after the one I'm about to tell you), but they, for reasons I'm unaware of, they didn't live too long in our home.  Then came ''Tomy'', which we loved, but caused a lot of problems. He wa...

A special meal

It’s hard for me to think of one very special meal, mainly because there hasn’t been a huge celebration, or any that’s more important than the rest. The one I’m thinking of, it definitely wasn’t a big celebration, any birthday or special occasion, it was one meal of when my family and I made the trip to the south of Chile. We were traveling on a motor home, so most of our meals were inside the motor home, but the very first one, was the most special one. The night before, we parked in a gas station and slept there, and so the next morning we had to take breakfast. I remember it was the most complicated thing at first, since it was our first time doing that, not like it’s something completely out of the world, but we were six and there wasn’t too much space to move around. My dad went out to buy some food, something like cakes I think since we were already prepared and had bread and everything to put in it, and my mom went to get water so we could boil it and drink tea. I ...

Fiestas Patrias

I’ve always been eager for Fiestas Patrias, mainly because I get to rest (which for me is just laying on my bed not thinking of all the things I have to do) and sleep a lot. And also because everyone is extremely happy during this time (maybe due to the alcohol haha) and that makes me happy too. This year, I spent it more with my family. We went over my grandma and ate everything we could, specially ‘’empanadas’’ that she always makes, they are no doubt the best I’ve ever eaten. We went to the trustworthy Fonda in Parque O’Higgins, which is always good and well organized, so you can’t get lost and there’s about everything there, from food to drinks to handmade crafts. The only problem is that it was overcrowded (like always), but besides that it was great I also went to another Fonda near where I live in Maipú, and honestly It was so boring and I was a little bit tired too, and I only wanted to go home. To make it even worse, there was way, way too many people there, you c...
